2008 Competition Info

Eligibility

Auditions are open to all instrumental students up through Grade 12. Applicants must be residents of Ontario, Seneca, Wayne or Yates counties. (Note: pianists and vocalists are not eligible).

The winner will receive a cash reward and will perform with Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra at their Annual Spring Concert in April.

Auditions

Auditions are held in late February. Please check back in January 2008 for more information. Accompaniment is recommended but not mandatory for audition. Please be sure that your audition piece has orchestrated accompaniment.

Dylan Kennedy

Dylan Kennedy

Dylan, a seventh grade student in Victor, began piano lessons at the age of five, and began violin lessons at the age of seven. He has been a member of Penn Yan's Elementary and Middle School orchestras under the direction of Tracey Ingerick, the Penn Yan Academy Full Orchestra under the direction of Doug Holcomb, the Hochstein Philharmonia under the direction of John Fetter, and numerous all-county orchestras. He is currently the concertmaster for the Victor Jr. High Orchestra under the direction of Pam McGary, and a first violinist in the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Hochstein Virtuosi Scholarship Chamber Orchestra, both under the direction of Nancy Strelau.

Currently enrolled at Rochester's Hochstein School of Music and Dance, Dylan is a violin student of RPO violinist Angel OuYang and a piano student of Eastman doctoral candidate Daniela Mineva.

With an unmistakable love of music, he thrives on the live performance. Dylan has performed at numerous church services and locations around Keuka Lake over the past two years, and has performed in dozens of recitals. He has been recognized for his musical achievements in both violin and piano at the Hochstein School of Music Merit Scholarship competitions in each of the past three years, and was awarded first place in his division at Rochester's 2006 Fortissimo! string solo competition.

Katrina King

Katrina King

Katrina King, a ninth grade homeschool student, has been playing flute for three years. She is currently studying with Kathryn Scarbrough at the Hochstein School of Music.

Katrina is enrolled in the Honors Certificate Program at Hochstein and is the principal flutist in the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra.
